On Thursday evening, CommonWealth received the statement below from former Boston Globe reporter Jim O’Sullivan shortly after the Globe posted online a note to readers from editor Brian McGrory in which he said it was a mistake for the paper not to have named O’Sullivan in its December 8 story on sexual harassment issues at media outlets. The story reported that a Globe reporter had been pressured into resigning after allegations of impropriety were brought to the paper’s attention, but it did not name him. On Monday, CommonWealth published a story detailing information reporter Jack Sullivan gathered on the issue and named O’Sullivan.

STATEMENT FROM JIM O’SULLIVAN

I’m sorry for my behavior. I apologize to everyone, most particularly anyone who suffered as a result. I did not live up to the examples set for me, or the lessons I learned during my upbringing, education, and career.

There is no excuse.

I also apologize for the pain and embarrassment I have caused to my family and friends, my colleagues at the Globe, and my contacts on Beacon Hill.

Finally, I am sorry my actions triggered criticism of the Globe, one of Boston’s great institutions, and its leaders.

I have a lot of work ahead to regain everyone’s trust, but hope that over time, my words and actions will achieve that.
