The Bay State’s longtime shortage of candidates for public office was the topic of “No Contest: Why So Few People Run for Office in Massachusetts — and What to Do About It,” a MassINC forum held last night at the UMass Club in Boston. State House News Service recorded the event and has let us post their video in three parts below.
The panelists were Harvard Pilgrim Health Care CEO Charles Baker, Boston City Councilor and mayoral candidate Sam Yoon, state Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz, and UMass-Boston political science professor Maurice Cunningham. The discussion was moderated by CommonWealth associate editor Alison Lobron, who wrote “Ending the One-Party State” in the current issue of the magazine. She was introduced by MassINC president Gregory Torres and CommonWealth editor Bruce Mohl.
