Position Summary
The Malden Youth Programs Associate facilitates the Malden School Year A-VOYCE Program and co-facilitates the Summer Leadership Academy, programs that introduce high school students to community development, spatial justice, and Asian American history. In this role, the Associate provides mentorship and a sense of belonging for youth with varying identities and experiences and offers a space to engage in critical discussions beyond traditional school curricula. Outside of program facilitation, the Associate engages with local advocacy and placekeeping efforts in Malden and mobilizes youth to participate in relevant community initiatives and public meetings. The Associate also works with the Youth Programs Manager to support data and story collection, program evaluation, program documentation, administrative tasks, and systems that sustain effective youth programming.
About A-VOYCE: A-VOYCE (Asian Voices of Organized Youth for Community Engagement) is Asian Community Development Corporation’s leadership development program for high school youth. In this program, youth learn how to be empowered youth leaders and community organizers through building community and participating in a human-centered design process. It is geared toward youth who are interested in urban development, creative and oral storytelling, and community organizing.
Roles & Responsibilities
A-VOYCE Youth Leadership Programs (50%)
- Lead the 32-week School Year A-VOYCE program based in Malden to equip youth with leadership, self-efficacy, and project management skills.
- Co-lead the 7-week Summer A-VOYCE program based in Boston Chinatown.
- Build intentional relationships with youth cohorts through workshops, scheduled 1:1s, and community building events.
- Create and deliver skills-based curriculum (e.g., critical thinking, strategic planning, data analysis, imagining, goal setting, project design).
- Supervise a college intern through weekly check-ins and coaching in curriculum building and facilitation skills.
- Work with Youth Programs Manager to deepen A-VOYCE alumni engagement.
Advocacy (20%)
- Establish new and deepen existing partnerships with schools, residents, community organizations, local artists, and civic leaders in Malden.
- Attend relevant local meetings in Malden.
- Collaborate with staff working across areas of community building, advocacy, affordable housing development, and placekeeping to advance ACDC’s priorities in Malden.
- Share insights into Malden’s social and political landscape with ACDC staff.
Assessment, Administration, & Additional Responsibilities (30%)
- Support management of the Malden A-VOYCE Youth Program budget.
- Record all curricula and planning to ensure program sustainability and growth for future program cycles.
- Work with the Youth Programs Manager and team to track and measure quarterly goals and to analyze youth development outcomes and program evaluation feedback.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Excellent organizational skills, leadership skills, and self-direction/motivation
- Experience with and interest in positive youth development and popular education
- Experience in teaching relevant topics such as Asian American history, community development and planning, and/or social practice art
- Ability to efficiently manage administrative tasks and maintain accurate records (e.g., attendance, permissions, surveys, purchases)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal & written) to engage youth, residents, staff, artists, community partners, elected officials, etc.
- Creativity to experiment and make calculated risks while developing program
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn Microsoft Office Suite and Asana
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including availability during some evenings and weekends
- Preferred: Bilingual in Cantonese, Mandarin and/or other languages
- Preferred: Strong connection to Malden (e.g., current/former residency, local network), with interest in local community advocacy, organizing, or placekeeping efforts in Malden

Paid time off: 15 vacation days per year, increased to 20 days after 3 years of service. 13 holidays plus the week between Christmas and New Year’s, 6 sick days, and 2 personal days per year.

Work Environment
ACDC requires all staff to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Masks are optional in the office. This position requires three days per week in the Malden and Boston offices until further notice. The office is climate-controlled with heat and air conditioning. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
