Fall River’s Herald News notes that some Bay State towns are grumbling about the costs of holding the special US senate elections in December and January. Jay Pateakos reports:
“We’ve got to come up with the money somehow, but it will deplete our elections budget and we will have to go back to the finance board to get more money,” Swansea Town Clerk Susan Taveira said. She estimated the town spends about $7,200 per election.
“And with the main election being the day after Martin Luther King Day, we’ll likely have to pay people double time just in preparation for the election. This couldn’t have come at a worse time.”
