Unfortunately, depleted snow removal budgets don’t seem to be a harbinger of spring this year. Rather, they’re starting to appear well before Martin Luther King Jr. Day. According to the Georgetown Record, that North Shore town has already blown past the $104,000 budgeted for snow removal this season and gone $18,000 in the red. Georgetown’s Highway Department is planning to use less road salt (now practically a luxury item at $63 a ton) and more sand in the winter storms to come.
