Sun Chronicle editor Mike Kirby suggested a merger earlier this week:
In this era of regionalized government, isn’t a combined Attleboro-North Attleboro the way to go? Wouldn’t taxpayers save through economies of scale? Isn’t one community of 70,000 more powerful at the Statehouse than two separate communities?
These are good questions for students of history, cartography, and government efficiency, but I’d say the chances of a merger — of any two cities and towns in Massachusetts — are nil.
