A state trooper turned away trick or treaters outside Gov. Deval Patrick’s home in Milton on Halloween night even though no one appeared to be home.
The governor’s home is usually a popular spot on Halloween night, attracting droves of children from all over the area. But Saturday night a state trooper parked his vehicle facing out at the end of Patrick’s driveway and allowed no one to approach the governor’s home.
Alex Goldstein, a spokesman for the governor, said Patrick was at his Richmond estate in the Berkshires Saturday night. He referred all other questions to the State Police.
David Procopio, a spokesman for the State Police, said troopers routinely provide protection for the governor around the clock. He declined to discuss staffing, scheduling, or tactics, but said “it wouldn’t be uncommon” for a trooper to stand guard at the governor’s home even when the governor is not there.
The governor and his wife put their Milton home up for sale earlier this year with an asking price of $1.925 million. The asking price was reduced 10 percent to $1.725 million on October 18. As of today, the home has been on the market for 141 days.
