THE RACE FOR Suffolk County district attorney is getting more crowded.
Rachael Rollins, an attorney with a broad resume ranging from work as a federal prosecutor to general counsel to Massport and both the MBTA and the state transportation department, said she will seek the Democratic nomination for the post.
Veteran Suffolk DA Dan Conley announced last month that he won’t seek another term this fall after 16 years on the job.
Rollins, a 47-year-old graduate of UMass Amherst and Northeastern University School of Law, becomes the fourth Democrat in the race. Defense attorney Shannon McAuliffe, who had been preparing to challenge Conley before his announcement, was the first one in. Also running for the post are state Rep. Evandro Carvalho of Dorchester and veteran Suffolk County prosecutor Greg Henning, who has also worked as a high school teacher. Boston City Councilor Michael Flaherty said he’s considering making a run.
Rollins currently serves as chair of legal redress for the Boston NAACP. One recent change in Rollins’s biography: She moved earlier this month from her longtime home in Medford, which is in Middlesex County, to Roxbury, which sits squarely in Suffolk County.
No Republican has yet announced a run for the post in the heavily Democratic county, which is made up of Boston, Chelsea, Winthrop, and Revere.
