ML STRATEGIES, a government relations consulting group, added another former Massachusetts governor to its ranks, reuniting Paul Cellucci with his old running mate and political partner William Weld.

The website of ML Strategies, a subsidiary of the law firm Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo, says Cellucci will identify Canadian entities and companies needing guidance before US federal and state agencies.

Cellucci, 64, a former state senator from Hudson, ran for lieutenant governor with Weld in 1991 and the two men became political partners and close friends. Cellucci took over from Weld in the corner office in 1997 and was elected in his own right in 1999. He served as governor until 2001, when he left to become the US ambassador to Canada.

Cellucci announced publicly that he was suffering from ALS early last year and said he planned to raise money for research on the disease at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester. Weld joined the fundraising effort and, at the time, Cellucci referred to the political team being reunited. “Back together again,” he said, according to the Globe.

ALS, which is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease , is a terminal degenerative neurological illness. Cellucci is confined to a wheelchair.

ML Strategies is headed by Stephen Tocco, a former advisor to both Cellucci and Weld.
