State officials on Tuesday said Massachusetts now has nearly 80,000 clean energy workers, up about 11 percent from a year ago and representing about 2 percent of the state’s workforce. As in previous years, the 2013 report from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center does not identify the 5,557 companies that employ those workers but does break down the jobs into various categories. The job totals are based on surveys conducted at companies that specialize in clean energy work as well as dabble in it. The survey comes as concerns are being raised by utility executives about the growing electric ratepayer subsidies for renewable energy, particularly solar power.
