DAVID BURGOS, a 16-year-old from Springfield, has been charged with murdering youth services worker James Hillman.
Hillman, 60, also of Springfield, was an employee of the Center for Human Development who worked at a secure residence for juvenile offenders overseen by the Department of Youth Services. Burgos was living in the home when he allegedly assaulted Hillman. Hillman died several weeks later.
Law enforcement have not provided any details of the attack, but people familiar with the incident said Burgos choked Hillman.
Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni on Thursday identified Burgos as the assailant and said he has been charged with murder. At an initial court appearance in Springfield District Court, Burgos was ordered held without bail. He is due back in court on September 24.
Gulluni’s office said there is an ongoing homicide investigation being conducted by the Massachusetts State Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s murder and juvenile units.
